about
PRIORS offer a second glimpse into their forthcoming album Daffodil (June 2nd, 2023 via Mothland), a cynical post-punk entry entitled “Optimizer”. Elegantly destroying common tropes of the genre, the piece is somewhat of a mise-en-abîme. Is it a literal heart-wrenching cry for help? A sardonic take on peer pressure and confusion? A critic of a never-dying and wistful fad? Either way, there is no stopping this chorus-drenched worm from entering your ear.
lyrics
Straight through my head
An unbreakable bone, I can’t feel it yet
I’ll probably end up dead
I’ll strum all alone you can place your bet
Straight through my head
You’ve come all alone, don’t take another step
I’ll probably end up dead
I’ll find my way home, it’s the place I’ve set
An unbreakable bone I can’t feel it yet
I’ll find my way home it’s the place I’ve set
It don’t sound great to me
Insanity’s the key
It don’t sound great to me
I’ll love until I bleed
It don’t sound great to me
Insanity’s the key
It don’t sound great to me
I’ll love until I bleed
There I go, there’s my friend
There I go, there’s my friend
There I go, there’s my friend
There I go, I can’t think straight
I can’t think straight
I can’t think straight
I can’t think straight
I can’t think straight
What a fucking great punk album. So many layers and dynamic changes, from charging sing-alongs to swirling psychedelia. I love the whole vibe of this thing. andrewtherooster
The first new album in 30 years from these noise rock pioneers, featuring the iconic Thalia Zedek, positively rips. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 12, 2019
A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer
